2008 Chevy Malibu Reviews
What Edmunds.com says
No longer a bench warmer in the midsize family sedan game, the 2008 Chevy Malibu gains starting lineup status thanks to its generous measures of style, refinement and performance.
Strong performance from V6, excellent ride and handling balance, roomy cabin, comfortable seats, very good fit and finish.
What's New for the 2008 Chevy Malibu?
Fully redesigned for 2008, the Chevy Malibu is now roomier, more powerful and of notably higher quality. It shares a platform with the Saturn Aura but is definitely not a simple rebadge, as it features unique exterior and interior styling along with different suspension tuning for a softer ride.
KBB Editors Overview
Chevy mid-size Malibu, like most GM passenger cars, suffered corporate neglect in the 1990s and early 2000s as customers---and the company's engineering attention and budget---increasingly shifted toward trucks and SUVs. Still, the plain-looking previous Malibu has drawn kudos as a solid, reliable, high-value contender and has sold fairly well. This new 2008 Chevy Malibu, vaults Chevrolet straight to the top of the mid-size sedan game. It looks wonderful, is solidly built and carefully crafted inside and out, offers good fuel economy, drives wonderfully and is priced to sell in serious volumes. There is even an affordable 2008 Chevy Malibu "mild" hybrid version that performs better than the base four-cylinder car and gets two miles-per-gallon better economy.
2008 Chevy Malibu builds on Saturn Aura's success
By BOB GRITZINGER
For the 2008 Chevy Malibu, GM engineers had another year to refine what was already a fairly good midsize chassis in the Aura-and it shows. The car is exceptionally tight, not just for a GM car but for any car anywhere near this price point. In back-to-back testing with the latest Toyota Camry, we came away impressed at how well the 2008 Chevy Malibu held its line and stayed planted over bumpy paved corners versus the Japanese competitor. The Malibu's fit, finish and features also compared favorably against the Camry's, and some on staff say the Malibu is better, more in line with a Volkswagen Passat.
